A Late August Blog (AKA September’S First Blog Post)

Y’all! August was a full month. I mean full-full. And so far September is feeling pretty much the same. Ok, let’s be real: September is feeling more full and the month ain’t over yet. So much has happened. Y’all surviving? I hope so.

Last month, there were quite a few projects, events, and free fact sheets (shameless plug) that encompassed my time. And when I say encompassed I mean—I felt honored to do. We celebrated Black Breastfeeding Week with the theme of ‘Revive, Restore. Reclaim’. I was able to join several amazing panelists for a discussion about postpartum guilt and breastfeeding with The Black Mom’s Blog’s Nursathon. Which led to a healing and uplifting space amongst birth work colleagues.

I even got to speak with Dr. UC (Dr. Uchenna Ossai), a pelvic health physical therapist and sex educator/counselor, about the pelvic floor in a very eye-opening discussion. If you missed it, it’s saved on my IG feed. I was also able to share a video on Elvie’s  (a women’s technology company: elvie.com) platform regarding the Black Maternal health crisis in America. You can watch it here.

Earlier in the month my dear sis and midwife friend, Lodz Joseph, and I linked up to offer some information regarding pathways to midwifery. Many of you have let us know how beneficial it was and I look forward to providing more for you all soon. In the meantime, you can find those lives saved on IG as well as videos on both of our pages regarding midwifery books and resources. We have also collaborated before in a letter to our community. Check out all the info and let us know what you think!

It was amazing to be able to connect with so many of you via these platforms, lives, and webinars. I truly love this community and am working on developing more for you—for us!

I know many of you were looking forward to the release of the ebook and I want to reassure you that it is coming! I want to give you the best and that requires me to do a bit more editing. I want to provide you with the necessary things that we can all be proud of.  So, hang in there. Don’t worry, I’ll let you know when it drops! Keep an eye out here, in your inbox, and on IG or Twitter for the updates.

In the meantime, the fact sheets are still free (but not for long)! Click here and check out The VC Shop.

In addition to all this, I received some great news professionally in two different realms. And I thought I would share one of them. There’s a catch tho. I want to transition to a space that feels more like ‘community’ and less like me ‘just talking’ over the disconnected medium that Instagram sometimes can be. I will be sending you an actual newsletter to your email. Yay! Once you sign up, you’ll receive more info about what’s going on.

This gives us a chance to really connect. I often hear ‘oh I know you’re too busy, sorry to bother’ and some similar comments, but truly, I love getting to know you all. I’m human. We all have lives and ups and downs and busy seasons. But I am here for you as my spirit and schedule allow. When I say I care I mean I really do and I want us all to do well and continue to be well.

So, let’s connect. We can work on educating ourselves and others, fighting to make safe spaces for Black folks and other vulnerable populations and work on healing.

I can’t wait to meet you here!
